the next week I spent trying to figure out how to get it home. I ended up renting a flat car hauler from uhaul. I left a little later than planned. My truck has pretty bad tires and a crack in the radiator. These things i had planned to repair with the money I spent on the nash. I don't have any car buddies around here stupid bill moved to maryland. so, a solo trip to recover the nash. I hooked the trailer to my '09 traverse. It has a 5800 pound towing capacity and the nash weighs the same as a vw bug, right? well, that is what I told uhaul. It is cheaper by about half to rent a car hauler local than one way. if I had picked it up in greeley it would have been $110 for a one way trip, getting it in laramie and doing a round trip was $60. Yeah money saved. I had looked up the bolt pattern for the nash online hoping to take some tires off my '72 chevy truck to get it on the trailer. The nash has a 5x4.5 pattern and the truck has a 5x5 no luck there. my trash trailer on the other hand 5x4.5 sweet. I brought two of those tires with me to get it off the ground. love the one tractor style tire.
The seller was nice enough to let one of the guys there help me load it. I changed two tires out that would not hold air and filled the other two so it would roll. note... the drivers side lugs have reverse thread. I should have remembered that. after tightening them down for a good ten minutes thankfully I didn't strip any threads I got them off the right way. now, rolling I lined the trailer up to pull it on with the guys truck. dropped it off a ramp once no damage. apparently the steering was disconnected at some point. hooked that back up by beating on it with a lead hammer no damage to the column that way. them straightened out the trailer again. and on she went.
I needed to grab some bungie cords to hold the hood and trunk down while traveling. off to big R. this is the place if you need hardware stuff. It was fun to have people come over and check the nash out. Even the paint guy came out and said he could mix up any color paint I needed and it would be cheaper and closer to factory type than I could find anywhere. Good to know. Rick met me over there and took me to lunch at a little mexican restaurant. chicharoni and beans. hot meant hot at this little shop. must return at some point. hey rick thanks for lunch you rock.
Back on the highway I set the cruise at 65 and enjoyed the drive. It took a little linger than I thought. But, I was not in a hurry. The traverse did great pulled it just fine even down the hill coming into laramie. I was a little worried about that one. I had intended to get some pics of this journey and unloading. when I got back to the house Steph was watching some friends kiddos and I had to block the street to get enough room to get it unloaded. so, no pics sorry. Unloaded in five minutes or so. the e-brake works. Then I took one of the kids and dropped the trailer off back at uhaul. switched my borrowed tires back to the trailer and called it a night.
So, what do I do about no title for this thing? bill any ideas?
you keep looking...and hoping...and thinking that it will all work out...because it eventually will.
